Diane Axworthy's Piano Studio

I teach private lessons to all ages, children to adult. I enjoy sharing the joy of discovering the musical potential in each student. I believe that learning should be fun.

Students learn in a relaxed atmosphere that puts the student at ease. I will introduce the student to traditional and classical music as well as popular music and will include any music style that the student has interest in. Lessons are individualized and I tailor my teaching approach to each student's individual gifts, abilities, and needs. I teach in the classical style, and theory is learned hands-on at the keyboard. Students will learn to read music, rhythms, key signatures, musical terminology and symbols. Performance opportunities are provided throughout the year.

About Diane

Music has always been a part of my life. My grandmother and mother both played piano. I remember trips to my grandparent's house where one room had a piano and another room had a pump organ. I was drawn to the variety and fun of the organ. My feet would pump the two pedals (the original stair stepper) while my fingers made music on the keyboard. The different combinations of the wooden stops gave endless variations of sound.

At home, Mom played songs on the piano from The New Golden Songbook with my brother and me sitting on either side of the bench singing along. By the time I was four, I was itching to learn to play the piano, so when I finally turned five I started piano lessons and a whole new world opened up to me. I haven't stopped since.

I have broadened my musical experience through the years. My grandparents sold their pump organ to provide me with a more modern one. I added organ lessons to my musical education and later became a church organist. In school I played the flute in band. The percussion section recruited me to play xylophone in the high school marching band and I learned a bit of percussion technique, all this while continuing with my piano studies. Currently, I am taking bagpipe lessons. I am a student as well as a teacher which gives me perspective on both sides of the bench.

Piano has always been, and will always be, my first and foremost instrument and my lifelong passion for music comes through in my teaching.

Lessons are usually 30 minutes, once a week. If you are looking for a good teacher in the Redmond/Kirkland area, please call or email.
